Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. London: George Allen, 1895. First edition thus, with Hugh Thomson illustrations, second impression. Thomson illustrated edition, second impression. Octavo. With 100 wood-engraved illustrations and a frontispiece by Hugh Thomson. Publisher’s original green cloth, richly decorated in gilt to spine and upper board with the iconic peacock design. All edges gilt. Dark green coated endpapers. A notably well-preserved and highly attractive example of this celebrated Victorian binding.

Contents clean, with no ownership inscriptions. Edges toned, with some browning to endpapers. Minor wear to cloth at hinges. Inner paper joints a touch tender but holding firm. Spine slightly darkened. A faint square price label mark to rear cover. Overall, a very good copy, presenting exceptionally well.

The second impression of Hugh Thomson’s celebrated illustrated edition of Jane Austen’s classic novel, widely regarded as one of the most desirable late Victorian editions. The striking gilt peacock binding remains among the most iconic and sought-after designs in 19th-century English publishing, prized as much for its visual appeal as for its literary significance. A particularly well-preserved example of the 1895 Peacock Edition, with strong gilt and excellent shelf presence—an increasingly difficult copy to source in comparable condition.
