Early Harper illustrated edition. Octavo (8vo), 307pp., [4]pp. publisher's advertisements. Original light blue cloth over boards, with dark blue "GORDIUS NODUS" emblem on front board with gilt lettering; spine lettered in gilt. Illustrated, with frontispiece and additional plates.

An early reprint of the first collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories, originally published in book form in 1892. Includes “A Scandal in Bohemia,” “The Red-Headed League,” “A Case of Identity,” “The Boscombe Valley Mystery,” “The Five Orange Pips,” “The Man with the Twisted Lip,” “The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle,” “The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” “The Adventure of the Engineer’s Thumb,” “The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor,” “The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet,” and “The Adventure of the Copper Beeches.” Green and Gibson A10, later edition.

Contents clean and unmarked with toning. Binding remains sound, though slanted. Original cloth rubbed, with darkening to spine, rubbing to spine ends, bumped corners. An attractive early twentieth-century edition of the first Sherlock Holmes story collection.
